Keeping faces protected all around the planet
Surfyogis Original All Natural Zinc formula was born in tropical Bali, where the warm waters can melt away most sunscreens and zincs. Not only does this leave your precious face exposed to harmful UVA and UVB rays but some products also track from your face on to all of your gear leaving a mess to clean up. We also wanted folks surfing in Indo to be able to have long sessions without worrying about the sun- well we think we nailed this, 8+ hrs in the water from one application they say! We are confident that Surfyogis Surfscreen Zinc is the longest wearing All Natural Zinc in the Universe. Our Regular Surf Screen is also perfect for summer use in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, Japan and pretty much anywhere that gets hot summer days. As a rule of thumb we recommend Surfyogis Surfscreen... -

When we fist met Ben Benson, he was a double threat ripping it up at Globe Skate Park in Bali by night, and shredding waves by day
When we fist met Ben Benson, he was a double threat ripping it up at Globe Skate Park in Bali by night, and shredding waves by day. Now a competitive surfer, Ben has been bouncing between Bali and California, soaking up the best of both worlds. Get to know Ben Benson, our high flying Team Rider with the catchy name and one of the most recognisable Surfyogis smiles! Hey BB, I first met you skating at Globe Skate Bowl in Bali and I was taking note, you were a grom & my skate hero. How'd you get so good so young? It just started out with my Dad either taking me to the beach or the skatepark everyday. It's what we did for fun, and also to get out of the house. Then as I started getting better in my surfing we would surf all day and then... -

Souliest of soul surfers, this time we find good friend of Surfyogis, Rhys Smith taking on the gritty breaks and surf culture of Tynemouth, Northern England
Souliest of soul surfers, we always enjoy spending some time in Rhys’s world. Going with the flow is what our high flying team rider does best, and this time his heart has taken him to Tynemouth, Northern England, where the surf culture is gritty, the winter temps are sub zero and food and coffee are… Souliest of soul surfers, we always enjoy spending some time in Rhys’s world. Going with the flow is what our high flying team rider does best, and this time his heart has taken him to Tynemouth, Northern England, where the surf culture is gritty, the winter temps are sub zero and food and coffee are… Well, read on. Looks like you've found love in & out of the water. I met Katie in Agnes Waters, Australia by complete coincidence. She has these bright green eyes which lured me in, and it felt like I’d known her forever. I fell in love with her instantly and haven’t looked back since. I was living in Byron Bay at the time and travelling up and down the east coast doing various kayak and surf instructing jobs each week. Katie was travelling around the world, and I showed her around some of... -

Jungle Annie
Annie Burke, or Jungle Annie to the hard core G-Landers, has been as much part of the furniture at Joyos over the last few seasons as our very own, Johnny G-land. Over the recent couple of seasons however, Annie and her husband Mick have had their attentions focused elsewhere since welcoming their very own grom. Here Annie shares with us about discovering surfing in her 20’s, being coached by Mick at Speedies, and returning to the water after a baby, with plenty of G-land nostalgia thrown in. Share with us some memorable times & characters you've come across I’m very grateful to have spent 3 wonderful seasons in G-Land and have been truly blessed to have met so many amazing people there. The staff are literally like family to me, they treat me as if I was their daughter/sister and nothing makes me more happy than seeing their smiley faces... -

From wetsuit to business suit, Landy Melei is a lady of many suits.
From wetsuit to business suit, prosecutor and entrepreneur Landy is a lady of many suits. Living fully with strength and grace in all areas of life, which is reflected in her surfing style, Landy recently launched her own line of high quality, bespoke wetsuits especially for women. We connected with Landy a few years back in G-Land. Recently our founder Johnny caught up with Landy for some Q&A about how things are tracking for her and her prized quiver of boards. Aloha Landy Melei You grew up in Hawaii. You seem like a curious individual, always on the go & adventurous. How was your upbringing & what'd you get up to? Seems like a lot of kids growing up go down a path of experimenting with drugs etc... As a professional, role model & mum, what advice can you give to parents & kids growing up on the Islands? ... -

Keeping classy with Clasje
With enough good vibes to fill the Indian Oceans, Clasje Goebel is a classy surfer who washed up in G-Land and crossed paths with our Founder Johnny 8 years ago. She turns heads in any line up with her lightning style. We've shared a chat with Johnny and Clasje in our blog section so you can get to know this electric waterlady a little better... JH: Clasje, anytime you take off on a wave heads turn, what’s the go with your unique style and boards you ride? CG: I think the way that I ride reflects how I feel. Energetic, creative, moody, playful or silly…. Surfing to me is about self-expression and I think the ocean is an incredible outlet for a full spectrum of emotion, a place I can always identify with and feel connected to the world. A noticeable shift in my surfing style came when... -

Ryan Wordsworth- A Chat With A Veteran Indo Surf Guide
J: Ryan, you've been hanging around Indo & other lucrative spots, any memorable stories you'd like to share? R: Ahh so many epic stories! Surfing a perfect grinding 300m long sandbar that was doing a pretty good superbank impression with no one around. Almost getting struck by lightning in java. Surfing another secret perfect left reef in Lombok with just a few locals and all the dodgy plane and ferry rides. Living in a hut on the beach in the Mentawais was pretty special. But the one that stands out the most was surfing in Panaitan Island getting tubed while to my left there was 2 massive water spouts and a lightning storm and to my right there was the most firey sunset I’ve seen lighting up the coral underneath me in the crystal clear water. J: How many different sunscreens have you used, which do you... -

Soul Sailor- Hans’s Solo Jukung Voyage Through The Archipelago
Dutch seadog Hans Sluiman connected with us recently looking for all day sun protection which is made with respect for the ocean. He needed something to see him through a long solo expedition of the Indonesian Archipelago of more than 17,000+ islands. His upcoming ocean voyage captured our imagination. Between1993 and 2008 Hans explored Indonesia by Jukung on and off, often setting out for 6 months at a time. Hans has seen more of Indo and been more intimate with the Indian ocean than even the most intrepid of us surfers. We asked him to spin his tales. Explain to us what a Jukung is, and what has inspired your trip? Jukung means small boat in Bali. A Jukung is a Balinese outrigger sailing canoe that is used for daily fishing around the coast. It's interesting because the Jukung dates back a few thousand years to the very... -

Journey To The QS- Taina Izquierdo Coming Through
As far as surfing goes, all original Bali girl Taina Izquierdo is a pedigree candidate- raised in the Uluwatu area with local legend Cacho Izquierdo as her old man, Taina has spent the last few years carving up the grom circuits, taking out the Rip Curl Grom search in 2017 and many other titles throughout her career so far. This 17 year old ‘no longer grom’ is half Indonesian half Puerto Rican and is a diligent competitor. Humble and softly spoken, you’ll see her fighting spirit come to life when she scores a 10 foot wave. Rumour has it that both Puerto Rican and Indonesian Olympic teams have set their sites on her for the 2020 Games in Tokyo. World-class waves produce world class surfers and it’s a monumental time for Indonesian surfers like Taina and her alumni who are better represented for the international scene than ever before. We... -

We chat to the gravity defying, competitive surfer, Rhys Smith about disappearing Beng-Beng's, jeans that give you wings and taking karmic action in the line up!
Back in November, deep in the Javanese jungle, we had the chance to hang out with the gravity-defying, competitive surfer, Rhys Smith (@waaxhead). We chatted about disappearing Beng-Beng's, jeans that give you wings and taking karmic action in the lineup! SY: Nickname? RS: Never really had one stick SY: Airs or Barrels? RS: Everyone knows how deep you can get in a barrel now, I get pumped on doing airs. There are so many variations of airs now you can try. They keep the progression going in surfing. It’s exciting when your rock up to a spot and see someone land a huge air off a crazy section they probably could have gotten barrelled in. But If you asked me after I’ve been surfing shitty onshore waves for a week or so I would say getting barrelled. SY: Which surfer inspires you? RS: I would have... -

Surfyogis Team Rider Thomas Kirby on surfing in Bali
SY: Nickname? TK: Shit, I'm not proud of any nicknames and I definitely don't think I'm even worthy of an interview but here we go.... Playing rugby, my nickname was meathead- other than that... Kirby SY: Age? TK: Old as Fark!!!! SY: Which surfer inspires you? TK: Rob Machado’s style, Dorian’s big wave game and Matt Meola’s progression. SY: Favourite local surfer? TK: John McGuirl cause he sorts out the f#*k heads in the lineup with a bit of comedy factor! SY: Nasi or Mie goring? TK: Sponsored by mie goreng SY: Airs or barrels? TK: I'm way too old to be doing airs and knowing my background I would break an ankle when I land, so barrels- definitely barrels! SY: Favourite surf spot? TK: I would tell you, but the Maori boys back home would break my legs. It's a right hander SY:... -
